Abstract: Given a three dimensional cost array of order n, the planar 3-index assignment problem (P3AP) is to choose n2 elements from the cost array such that exactly one entry is chosen from each line (two fixed indices) and such that the sum of the chosen cost entries is minimal. The bottleneck variant can also be investigated. Problems have applications in timetabling, and are both known to be NP-hard. This motivates to consider special cases resulting from imposing addition conditions on the cost array. In this talk we will consider special cases with the emphasis on Monge-like conditions.
